A book about Being

If you're looking for a how-to book, this ain't it! However, if you're looking for a book to contribute to and strengthen your own foundation for slaving, you'll be turning the right pages here. I found this book to be very helpful, surprisingly from both the Master and slave perspectives. (I'm a switch, have a slave (of two years) and am now looking to practice deep submission with a particular Sir.) This book gives a good foundation for BEING slave, rather than DOING slave, and it is my belief that effective and natural DOING must be preceeded by strong and confident BEING. It's refreshing to find a book that comes from this approach, even though there are enough tips and practical "how-to" in this read. It was also nice to read a book about slaving written by a slave, who understands the nuances and character of a slave mindset! (This, rather than being written by Masters or scholars who approach slaving from an outsider's perspective, which all too often seems to be the case.) SlaveCraft does not have all the answers (and, really, what book possibly could), and Baldwin acknowledges that its contents is a narrative drawn from personal experience and practices -- not universal -- with hopes that these will be helpful to others. Pat Califia's postlude gives a nice balance to the book as well, though I prefer the author's writing style easier to absorb on a gut level than Mr. Califa's more cerebral syntax (meaning no disrespect). On the whole, this book gives the reader -- both Master and slave alike -- plenty to consider and digest.

The first review is way off base

This book not only gives great insight with useful tools, it offers the reader the chance to re-think how they are approaching this lifestyle and whether they are approaching it with a 'true' heart ...
Mentorship is useful, but seriously there are a lot of bottoms, submissives and slaves that not only do not have the resourses to find a mentor, but they are too shy to go out and find one.
I would have given this book WAY more then 5 stars but that was the highest possible score.

Interesting but ulitimately unhelpful book

Several people suggested I read this book because they found it the best book about being a submissive, especially a service oriented one. While reading this book was interesting, I found almost nothing in it that would help me in my relationship with my mistress.

The goals and ideas Baldwin sets down are not ones that resonate with me. I read the whole book and felt frustrated that I wasn't getting what I wanted out of it. I didn't feel like I understood service submission any better than when I started the book.

Personally, I would suggest the two Miss Abernathy books. Epecially the work book which is full of exercises to do. I don't agree with everything she says, but I agree with most of it and I have found it extremely helpful.

A horrible accident in Montreal!

Sara Stanley is blamed for setting off fireworks in Avonlea when she didn't set them off and decides to sadly return to Montreal. Aunt Hetty goes with her and Sara is happily reunited with her father, Blair. But a horrible accident kills him and Sara is kidnapped for the inheritence money! Uncle Alec, Nanny Louisa and Aunt Hetty must return to Avonlea and find her before it's too late! This is based on an episode of the ROAD TO AVONLEA television series that spanned seven years and 91 episodes. These stories are very heartwarming and set at the turn of the century in the town of Avonlea on Prince Edward Island, Canada.

This story was okay. It was short and to the point a little. The book could have been longer. The ending left us hanging whether or not she got them to stop cutting the trees. And what happened to the crew that left her out there in the woods? So a good start could have added more would have been better. I recommend this book if you are looking for a short shifter read.

In my early youth I was very weak, infact,I almost died in child birth, which created a life long interest in strength. Along the way I also created an interest in history and biography.and found that in some situations the two interests merged.

My interest in history and biography many times led to a particular interest in individuals who exhibited super human strength under the most challenging of conditions. Such individuals exhibited strength far beyond muscular and contractile strength which is the very definition of NERVE FORCE. Some of these individuals would not be considered nice people by today's standards because they had to break through accepted social restraints to release their true potential strength. These individuals did not develop their strength through self resistance exercises, but through facing and overcoming challenges and stresses of various types. As Alois P. Swoboda said, “All evolution is a reaction to stress.”

Alois P. Swoboda was a 19th century mind/body trainer and originator of many of the concepts that were later adapted by modern physical and mental training. One of his most iconic quotes was ,”All evolution is a reaction to stress ". This stress is not always from conscious
exericse, but can also be from life experiences and can manifest itself physically, mentally, and psychologically even in people who may
have followed what we would consider a healthy lifestyle. When this force combines both conscious and unconscious elements it is often referred to it a “nerve force” or “chi.”

Two individuals that come immediately to mind in this category are Blackbeard the pirate and Rasputin, the Mad Monk of of Russia. Their
Nerve Force and their desire to live were so strong that they were both very difficult to kill. It took 5 gun gun shots and 20 sword slashes to kill Blackbeard.

In the early hours of December 30, 1916, a group of nobles lured Rasputin to Yusupovsky Palace, where they attempted to poison him. Seemingly unaffected by the large doses of poison placed in his wine and food, he was finally shot at close range and collapsed. A minute later he rose, beat one of his assailants, and attempted to escape from the palace grounds, where he was shot again. Rasputin, still alive,
was then bound and tossed into a freezing river.

“Mental Muscle” explores various types and dimensions of strength as well as giving numerous drills to develop various qualities of strength. Yet in the end as it suggests we are all unique and all different and as a result we must all through personal experimentation find our own
path to release this ultimate personal force.

The Very Rev. Father Andre Prevot, of the Society of the Priests of the Heart of Jesus, was a French priest who lived in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. His devotional work entitled Love, Peace, and Joy was originally published by R. & T. Washbourne, Ltd. in London as Love, Peace, and Joy: A Month of the Sacred Heart According to Saint Gertrude. Father Prevot wrote it to carry out our Lord s great desire namely, that of making His sacred Heart known and loved throughout the world. It is based on Christ s personal words to St. Gertrude as she herself has recorded in her Revelations. TAN reprinted the book in 1984 and again in 2007.

Just when I thought I knew all the classic spiritual/devotion books this jewel came as a gift to me! It is a must read ranking close to such as "The Story of a Soul," "Introduction to the Devout Life," "Imitation of Christ," et al. May help bring one to know more deeply the Love and Mercy of Jesus whose Heart was pierced for us!

Our Lord chose St. Gertrude to be the Messenger or Herald of Divine Love, and He guided her as she wrote, so that through her He might make known the secrets of His Heart, and thus draw many hearts to Himself. Jesus said to St. Gertrude, "I wish your writings to be for later times a proof of the tenderness of My Heart, and I will make them a source of grace to many souls. While you write, I will keep your heart near to My Heart, and will instill into it, drop by drop, what you are to say." By following these actual words of Our Lord to St. Gertrude in our daily life, a soul will become enriched with incomparable merit, and will be filled, even in this life, with the profound peace and joy which come from loving the Sacred Heart of Jesus. 203pp. PB. If You Want To Get Closer To Jesus Read This

This is a wonderful book of prayers and thoughts by St. Gertrude The Great. I wrote several of her prayers down on cards so I could say them. St. Gertrude follows St. Benedict's Rule so it is very religious. She has wonderful thoughts on the holy souls.

About the Author
Marguerite Donnadieu, better known as Marguerite Duras (4 April 1914 - 3 March 1996) was a French writer and film director. She was born at Gia-Dinh, near Saigon, French Indochina (now Vietnam), after her parents responded to a campaign by the French government encouraging people to work in the colony. Marguerite's father fell ill soon after their arrival, and returned to France, where he died. After his death, her mother, a teacher, remained in Indochina with her three children. The family lived in relative poverty after her mother made a bad investment in an isolated property and area of farmland in Cambodia. The difficult life that the family experienced during this period was highly influential on Marguerite's later work. An affair between the teenaged Marguerite and a Chinese man was to be treated several times (described in quite contrasting ways) in her subseqent memoirs and fiction. She also reported being beaten by both her mother and her older brother during this period. At 17, Marguerite went to France, her parents' native country, where she began studying for a degree in law. This she soon abandoned to concentrate on political sciences, and then law. After completing her studies, she became an active member of the PCF (the French Communist Party). In the late 1930s she worked for the French government office representing the colony of Indochina. During the war, from 1942 to 1944, she worked for the Vichy government in an office that allocated paper to publishers (in the process operating a de facto book censorship system), but she was also a member of the French Resistance. Her husband Robert Anthelme was deported to Bergen-Belsen for his involvement in the Resistance, and barely survived the experience (weighing on his release, according to Marguerite, just 84 lbs). In 1943 she changed her surname for Duras, the name of a village in the Lot-et-Garonne d partement, where her father's house was located. She is the author of a great many novels, plays, films, interviews and short narratives, including her best-selling, apparently autobiographical work L'Amant (1984), translated into English as The Lover. This text won the Goncourt prize in 1984. The story of her adolescence also appears in three other forms: The Sea Wall, Eden Cinema and The North China Lover. A film version of The Lover, produced by Claude Berri, was released to great success in 1992. Other major works include Moderato Cantabile, also made into a film of the same name, Le Ravissement de Lol V. Stein, and her film India Song. She was also the screenwriter of the 1959 French film Hiroshima mon amour, which was directed by Alain Resnais. Duras's early novels were fairly conventional in form (their 'romanticism' was criticised by fellow writer Raymond Queneau); however, with Moderato Cantabile she became more experimental, paring down her texts to give ever-increasing importance to what was not said. Her films are also experimental in form, most eschewing synch sound, using voice over to allude to, rather than tell, a story over images whose relation to what is said may be more-or-less tangential. Marguerite's adult life was somewhat difficult, despite her success as a writer, and she was known for her periods of alcoholism. She died in Paris, aged 81 from throat cancer and is interred in the Cimeti re du Montparnasse. Her tomb is marked simply 'MD'.
