Simple and HIGHLY effective! A MUST have!

I cannot say enough great things about "How to Allow". I purchased this book about a year ago and have been floored at times with how much my life has improved since. Susan created an easy to use system that takes the guess work out of deliberate creation. I started researching the law of attraction a few years ago and although I believed it worked, my results were somewhat inconsistent and spotty. Thankfully, "How to Allow" filled in the missing pieces and has taught me the skills I was lacking for effective creation. Her book is THE manual you need to really put the law of attraction into action. It's simple and easy to understand and most importantly- it works! I'm forever grateful for this well written, insightful and life altering book!

Susan Young's book "How To Allow" is more than a book, it's also a well planned, EFFECTIVE course and is definitely the best $29 investment I have ever made. I experienced a major shift in perspective right at the start of her book. Not long after, many opportunities started coming my way, quite unexpectedly.

I was named for and then interviewed for a promotion and was awarded it. At first I thought the promotion would be for approximately $3,000, possibly twice a year. It turned out to be a promotion for $5,000 that fall (they asked me if $5,000 was okay), and another $5,000 in the spring. I was shocked when I found out they needed me in the summer, too. You guessed it, another $5,000.00.

Beginning the next school year, they extended an offer to continue and offered me a raise for $13,500 for both semesters. (This is in addition to my regular salary).

In addition to these opportunities, private clients have been coming my way for help with personal statements for graduate school or editing an art auction catalogue. These clients have been higher caliber than previous ones and a pleasure to work with... I know my value and I'm communicating that better.

The investment in Susan's book and course was well worth it, many times over. Thank you Susan, for showing us "How to Allow." I will keep revisiting the course for inspiration.

About the Author
Nestor Capoeira was initiated by Mestre Leopoldina, a living legend. Later he joined the Senzala Group and in 1969 received the coveted "red-rope," Senzala's highest graduation. In 1990 he left Senzala and started to teach his personal approach to the Game at his own school. He has been a pioneer at teaching capoeira in Europe, and his books have been published in France, Denmark, Germany, and the United States. He has worked in film, theater, and television and currently teaches at the Planetario de Gavea in Rio de Janeiro.

Wow - amazing book! This book explores capoeira in a very detailed historical, sociological and philosophical context. It presents sensible historical evidence for the evolution of capoeira and not just mythical hearsay. This book might be a little boring to someone with just a passing interest in capoeira, but it will be hard for a capoeira lover to put it down. Thanks, Nestor - Axé!

Fantastic book, written with an open-minded view on Capoeira

Again a very good book by the hands of the famous Nestor Capoeira. This book shows many aspects of our beautiful art and shows various views on certain subjects by people who really know this art (Jair Moura, Mestre Itapoan and more). The book is written with an open mind like I know Mestre Nestor. His open-minded view shows in all the conversations and lectures I had with him. This book is really a must for the dedicated Capoeirista.

Around the World and Across Time: Understanding the Global Perspective

Nestor Capoeira's book offers readers a powerful testimony to the history of capoeira. Written in a clear and informative style, Nestor's work is accessible to all. What I most appreciate about Capoeira: Roots of the Dance, Fight, Game, is that is both an excellent foundational piece for those new to the art-form's long-standing socio-cultural traditions AND one of the best references covering the inner-workings and politically-motivated debates that have taken place in the recent past. I particularly enjoyed the anthology of recent essays and updates he includes in the last 1/3 of the book: his own reflections on new elements in the history of capoeira and Muniz Sodre's perspectives that are informed by his experiences in Candomble. Nestor's experiences--both inside roda and inside the academic realm of research--will continue to be a touchstone for the next generations grappling with the ever-shifting and expanding global contexts of capoeira. I highly recommend this book! Axe ASCAB!

A great re-imagining of a very sexy tale

This story reminds me heavily of one written a long, long time ago on the excellent mcstories. I forget the name, “Good until the last drop, “ I think. From one of Nadia's social media posts, I noticed she referenced how this story influenced her. That said, I think that this story takes the same hot premise—a regular guy having somehow super-influential come—and takes it to the next level.

The story that inspired her was, in my mind, a complete classic. So far, this one is shaping up to be a pretty decent rival, if not even better! The writing is crisp, the characters are fun, and I'm invested to see where it goes. Can't wait for more!

Beginning of a great trilogy!

This is a story that focuses solely on dominating women through mind control, but in a change of pace from the normal type of story this is....the user doesn't actually make decisions that would only make his life better, but also the women he controls. Sure he gets the sexual release and women he wants, but he also makes sure they walk away with better lives as well. It's the opening of a trilogy of books, and the premise is really good. Hoping to see some more soon.

True to form, this is a another well written notch in Nadia's belt. This story sticks to her well loved mind control genre, and provides a take into the method that I haven't seen before. The characters are more than one dimensional blow up dolls and have real stakes. Looking forward to the rest of this series in particular, and hope it's longer than her normal 3 story cycle. DV

He agrees with me, what can I say?

It is rare that you can find a thoughtful book on the subject of multilevel selection that actually critically reviews all sides of the subject. I have done considerable work in this area. I am pleased that he cites me appropriately and thoughtfully, and that he cites the relevant literature appropriately. That said, it is a technical book. I don't think I would recommend this as your first book on evolutionary theory, and it frankly is quite technical. However, if you want to know what the current controversy about group selection is all about then I strongly recommend this.

A few details: The center piece of this book is the comparison between the Price equation and contextual analysis. The Price equation is a method of partitioning covariances between a trait and relative fitness into within group and between group components. Contextual analysis is a multivariate regression approach in which a partial regression of traits measured on individuals and measured on groups are simultaneously examined. These two approaches follow from different philosophies and lead to different conclusions. Okasha discusses how these two views differ, and provides an excellent rational for choosing between these two approaches, provides important insights into how these two approaches color our view of multilevel selection

This Book is Great (For Its Intended Audience)

I both love and hate this book. I love it because I am particularly interested in the 'Levels of Selection' problem in evolutionary science, and any book on this subject is a good book. But, I also hate it too. Let me begin with the reason why I hate it. Professor Okasha writes in the Introduction, "The book is aimed at evolutionary biologists, philosophers of science, and interested parties from other disciplines. It presumes a basic familiarity with Darwinian evolution, but I try to introduce every topic from scratch. Jargon, whether biological or philosophical, is avoided as much as possible, and explained where it is used. In places the treatment is slightly more technical than is customary in philosophical discussions, but no more so than is necessary to achieve clarity. Inevitably, different chapters will appeal more to some readers than others, depending on the reader's interests. The book is designed to be read as a whole, but there is an element of modularity." As one reviewer pointed out already, this book is technical - very technical. And this is why I hate it. Because this book was published for a general audience, as opposed to being published in a technical journal, I felt that Okasha could have perhaps sprinkled a few metaphors and analogies throughout the text to help explain some of the more difficult passages. It is only because I have "a basic familiarity with Darwinian evolution" that I was able to grind through this book. As an introduction to the `Levels of Selection' problem, I think this book would be entirely beyond the layman's reach. However, with that aside, I did also love this book; what follows are a few reasons why.

For starters, Professor Okasha, does lay out the argument efficiently; "The levels-of-selection is one of the most fundamental in evolutionary biology, for it arises directly from the underlying logic of Darwinism. The problem can be seen as the upshot of three factors, each of which was appreciated to some extent by Darwin himself. The first and most fundamental factor is the abstract nature of the principle of natural selection...Any entities which vary, reproduce differentially as a result, and beget offspring that are similar to them, could in principle be subject to Darwinian evolution. The basic logic of natural selection is the same whatever the `entities' in question are. The second factor is the hierarchical organization that characterizes the biological world. The entities biologists study form a nested hierarchy, lower-level ones properly included within higher-level ones...The third factor concerns not the process of natural selection but its product. Natural selection leads organisms to evolve adaptations - traits that enhance their chance of survival and reproduction." Also, I found the way Professor Okasha applies Price's Equation in the hierarchical setting very interesting and valuable. Furthermore, I found the two sections, 'Particle Fitness and Collective Fitness' (2.2.3) along with 'The Two Types of Multi-Level Selection' (2.2.4), to be enormously beneficial. In fact, these two small sections more than make up for any negatives about the book.

In sum, I believe that for anyone already deeply interested in the 'Levels of Selection' debate then this purchase would be a no-brainer. For others however, there are better places to start: Darwin's Conjecture: The Search for General Principles of Social and Economic Evolution, Evolution--the Extended Synthesis, or The Evolutionary World: How Adaptation Explains Everything from Seashells to Civilization, for example.

Very helpful for this layman.

A very good account of the concepts behind the multi-level selection (MLS) point of view. It is moderately technical but well within the reach of a layman (I am one, I should know). There was some terminology I had to look up and a few equations to digest, but nothing too complicated.

The focus is very much on the conceptual level and there isn't a lot of discussion of empirical findings (some but not a lot). Some of the ideas I took from the book are: natural selection is inherently an abstract concept that can apply at multiple levels, distinguishing between levels requires looking at the biological details (focusing on causation), there are two types of MLS that track different things (collectives themselves or particles in the collectives) and MLS1 is a little weird (in my opinion), gene's-eye-view and group selection are often equivalent ways of looking at things, and MLS plays a role in describing how the biological hierarchy evolved in the first place (rather than taking it as a given).

Anyone wanting to understand the multi-level selection controversy in biology won't go wrong in reading this book.
