A Series of Simple Exercises

This book is printed in China by Science and Technology Press. Compared to other Tai Chi and Chi Kung books, this one has many simple exercises and commentary to understand some of the workings of chi energy. There are charts in the back of the book that link the Dayan Qigong with Acupuncture Meridian points and useful lists of Chinese terminology so that you can perhaps decode other books on the subject. Two color pictures, one on the cover and one inside, show the author demonstrating his craft. There are a lot of useful and interesting notes throughout the book. While many Tai Chi books have this information, this one is fairly complete as a system. I do gather that there are more advanced levels of practice that are beyond this book, but the exercises are simple enough so that you will not hurt yourself (unless you get too creative and push too far beyond what the author says) and you can benefit a lot as well. The author also shares the best times to practice to nourish different aspects of yourself, like 5am to 7am for promoting longevity and 11am to 1pm for nourishing the blood.

Very helpful

I wouldn't recommend trying to learn Da-Yen (Wild Goose) Ch'i Gung (Qigong) without a teacher. There are subtleties that aren't in the books - where you put your weight, for example. But if you're fortunate enough to have been able to learn this extremely powerful Ch'i Gung, this book can be very helpful as a reminder tool when you forget the details of a movement. And the general information is good - one sentence revealed to me why I was having more pain for awhile after I started the practice (shortly all gone). I found my copy in a Chinese bookstore. From the master herself, now passed on. I was lucky enough to visit her in Beijing a couple years before she left us at about 106 in 2002 (records don't go back far enough to be absolutely certain) after an incredibly tough life - still impressive and flexible and sharp as can be!
